Our earliest experiment, the pilot training was a two day training for current substitute teachers.  Substitutes joined us from five bay area districts, two charter school networks and one independent school. The two days focused on skills-building  a mix of group and classroom management. Sessions were taught by Playworks trainers using games and play, design thinking taught by the d.school K12 Lab Network staff, music taught by a staff person from Little Kids Rock (visualize 45 acoustic guitars!), a workshop on special education and a session on mindfulness. There were opportunities for the participants to mingle during lunch and during the breaks between sessions, and one of the most popular activities was a breakout session over lunch on employing games when working with high school students. It was a fun two days, check out the video!

The story behind the workshop is featured on the d.School K12 Learning Lab.
